A Flicker in the Dark

Genre: Fiction

This is the story of Chloe Davis originally from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana and now living in Baton Rouge, also, Louisiana. Chloe and her older brother Cooper, are very close as adults. That makes sense, considering that during their childhoods, the two lost, who they believed, was their father, who was convicted of six life sentences for brutally murdering young girls in their town. They then lost their mother to deep depression and a suicide attempt which left her with severe limitations, including an inability to speak. As an adult, Chloe is working through her trauma, is engaged to be married and is working as a psychologist. She's heavily self-medicating with Xanax and other medications, but she's also helping teens turn their lives around. When one of Chloe's clients goes missing and others go missing soon after, Chloe begins to suspect that there's another string of serial murders and she's hoping that this doesn't have anything to do with her father. This is a well-told, suspenseful story about families and the love we share even in the most trying of times.

I guessed who it was about half-way through the book. I wavered for about a chapter, but then came back to my original theory at the end. So, this wasn't so mysterious that it kept me on my toes, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless as I wanted to go back and see how it ends. It's a perfect book to cuddle with on a cold day.
